Getting Around Seward

Finding Your Way Around the Seward Area
Seward is small, friendly, and easy to navigate, but it helps to have a game plan. Whether you’re rolling in on the train, stepping off a cruise ship, or road-tripping down the Seward Highway, a little planning makes the day smoother. This guide covers practical ways to move between downtown and the harbor, when a taxi or shuttle makes sense, and what to do if you arrive before check-in.
Arriving Before Check-In?
Check-in starts at 3:00 p.m., and we’re not able to store luggage. If you arrive early, plan to keep your bags with you while you explore. In most cases, it’s not very helpful to take a taxi all the way out to the Nauti Otter just to drop things off and then head back into town again. A better plan is to choose an option that lets you stay mobile, keep your stuff with you (or safely stored), and enjoy Seward while you wait.

Adventure 60 North
If you want to jump straight into an adventure, Adventure 60 North can pick you up from the train station or cruise terminal and store your luggage while you’re out. They offer Exit Glacier hikes, a 2.5-hour outing designed for viewing the glacier without going on the ice (great for families, groups, or anyone short on time), and even gold panning with instruction and demonstrations—rain or shine—with plenty of local humor and history along the way.

Dighton Luggage Service
If you’d rather explore on your own, Dighton Luggage Service can store your luggage and deliver it later, which makes it much easier to wander downtown, grab food, or check out the harbor without hauling bags around.

Taxi Services
If you just need a ride, Seward has taxis, and guests often team up and share fares—hostel style. Common options include Red Taxi (907-224-2727), Independent Taxi (907-224-3958), and PJ’s Taxi (907-224-5555).

Seward City Tours
Another easy option for getting around Seward is the free shuttle run by Seward City Tours, which lets you hop on and off around town between the harbor and downtown. Just note that the free shuttle stays in town and does not come out to the Nauti Otter.
Around Town
Once you’re settled in, getting around Seward is pretty straightforward. Downtown is compact and very walkable, and a lot of guests naturally end up sharing rides with other Nauti Otters—someone’s heading to the grocery store, someone’s going to the harbor, someone else is trying to get to a hike, and it’s easy to combine plans. Taxis are available if you want a direct ride, and the Seward City Tours free shuttle is a great option for getting between downtown and the harbor area without spending extra money.

Exit Glacier Shuttle
If Exit Glacier is on your list, Exit Glacier Guides offers an inexpensive shuttle from downtown, making it one of the easiest ways to get there without your own vehicle. It’s a practical option for guests who want a simple ride out to one of Seward’s most popular glacier areas.

Explore Seward by Bike
If you’d rather get around under your own power, Adventure 60 North also offers bike rentals. On a nice day, renting a bike can be a fun way to explore Seward at your own pace while staying flexible with your plans around town.
