What to Pack when Visiting Alaska


Don't forget these important items when deciding what to pack when visiting Alaska. Being prepared makes for a much more enjoyable trip.

Backpack

Whether hiking, fishing, kayaking or just kicking around town, it's nice to have a large bag to carry around.

Cooler

If you plan on going hiking, it's smart to bring a collapsible cooler for snacks.

Hiking Boots

You'll need sturdy boots. And, it can rain a lot, so make sure our boots are water resistant.

Winter Wear

If you plan on taking a cruise to the glacier, hiking on the glacier, or going deep sea fishing, winter wear would be a nice thing to have.

Layers

Temperatures average around 60-70 degrees. Bring items like tank tops, t-shirts, long sleeve shirts, capris, cargo pants, hiking gear.

Rain Gear

It can rain a LOT in Seward, being a coastal town. Bring lightweight rain gear (pants and coat) to prepare for rainy weather.

Rubber Boots

Bring rubber boots if you can. It's fun to check out the low tides near the bay. Everyone in Alaska wears them!

Socks/Undies

Bring wool, breathable socks if you plan on going hiking or fishing. Also, there is no where to buy undies in Seward if you forget them!

Sunglasses

It's probably going to be daylight most of the day while you are in Alaska! Don't forget your shades!

Medicine

Everything is more expensive up here and you could be in remote areas, so make sure you bring what you think you will need.

Bug Spray

The bugs aren't bad around Seward, but if you are going to other parts of Alaska, bring some repellent! Oh, and if it's sunny, you'll need sunscreen!
